Open Letter To MCVFD And Citizens
from Mayor Pro Tem:
In the sense of transparency and to let the MCVFD and Citizens know of what was passed during open session in Tuesday night’s Council Meeting on April 17, 2018, below is an email I sent to Chief Jones to express my hope there is still a way to work together.
If acceptable by the MCVFD’s membership by 5pm this Friday, April 20, 2018 the contract referenced in my email gives the citizens of McLendon-Chisholm guaranteed response, 7am-7pm as the MCVFD currently is doing now through at least the budget cycle of 2019. Only difference is that the City would become 100% responsible for funding of operational and personnel expenses.
This Council is very concerned with our Citizen’s Fire Protection and would like to work with the MCVFD. However, absent that option we must put in place a long term Fire Protection program. In the “Statement for moving forward at this time to a City Owned Fire Department”, it clearly shows our expert consultants and advisors have been able to get our City Fire Department up and running with vehicles and equipment well within the City’s Budget.
As this process continues, I will provide updates.
Sincerely,
Wayne Orchard
