Beginning Monday, October 30, regular hours for City Hall will be from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday, except on days following a City Council, Planning & Zoning, or Board of Adjustment meeting, where the offices will open at 10am.
With the unanimous support of the City Council, the Mayor announced the new schedule during last night’s city council meeting, that adjourned around 11pm.
As part of the discussion, Mayor Steinhagen explained that the full-time staff members, which consists of a City Administrator & City Secretary, typically stays at city hall after the 5pm regular close of business in preparation for meetings and remains on-site to lock up the building. Most meetings last until 8 or 9pm, but over the past six month’s since Steinhagen has been Mayor, the City Council meetings have been ending around midnight and beyond.
Steinhagen stated that City Administrator Dave Butler is now required to leave no later than 9pm so that he can open City Hall at 10am the next day, while City Secretary, Lisa Polomba will not begin her day following any meeting until 1pm.
This change reflects the commitment of the City Council to ensure that the city serve the public with excellence while keeping personnel costs to a minimum, when possible.
