A Home Rule Charter is a document that grants a city or municipality the authority to govern itself independently from state laws, within certain limits. This means the city can create its own laws and regulations, as long as they don’t conflict with state or federal laws. Essentially, it allows for more local control and flexibility in managing municipal affairs, such as zoning, public services, and local taxes.

In Texas, for example, cities with a population of more than 5,000 can adopt a Home Rule Charter through a vote by the residents. This charter acts like a local constitution, outlining the structure of the city government, the powers of elected officials, and the rights of citizens.

Santa Claus and Children at the MC Tree Lighting event.

Santa’s arrival was met with eager cheers from the children gathered at City Hall. The crowd buzzed with anticipation for the annual live-tree lighting, and just like that, the Christmas spirit was alive and well in McLendon-Chisholm.

The City’s 6th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting was a resounding success. Citizens enjoyed the warmth of community, hot cocoa, and delicious cookies, while sharing the spirit of Christmas by donating unwrapped gifts for our Toy Drive. City Hall sparkled with lights as Santa posed for pictures and listened to holiday wishes from excited children.

A heartfelt thank you to the City staff, Council, and MC Fire Department for making this a memorable night for everyone.

Keep the Christmas spirit alive this holiday season by visiting City Hall to donate an unwrapped gift for our Toy Drive and non-perishable food for our Food Drive.
